Seven months ago, in my trip to Guatemala, I decided to go to Zunil, a suburb of the city of Quetzaltenango in eastern Guatemala.
You might wonder what would I have to look for in a place like that, a grey agricultural suburb built almost entirely of bare cement blocks wooden planks and tin plates.

We (me and my friend Dor) went looking for the mannequin of San Simon, a mysterious saint which is a mixture of a Christian saint and ancient Mayan beliefs. It’s a figure that goes from house to house once in a while, it’s considered a great honour to host it in your house. people come and bring offerings and ask for blessings, some of the more common offerings are orange soda, cigars, and cheap liquor in big bottles. Out side the house awaits the local ceremony holders wait for there daily business, of course they get paid for their services, there was actually a sign saying the more you pay, the more likely it is for your wishes to become true.

As I was on my way out I came across this girl with her gaping curious eyes just staring at me and my touristic presence, I came closer asking if I could take her picture in my broken Spanish she didn’t respond, she kept on looking at me. I took out my camera trying not to be too not be too aggressive, and took a few pictures, I showed her and she smiled.
I decided to open a blog to get more exposure to my pictures, and to bring the story behind the pictures, which in my opinion gives another layer to the image, and an extra value.
